What do they mean by a Have-a-Go?

Every year South Wilts Archery Club gets invited to many community events such as school fetes, county shows and fayres. You may have even joined our club after taking part at one!

Remember, you have signed the club’s constitution to say you will help out with club events – why not fulfil your promise and have some fun at the same time!

 How can you help?

There are three stages that you can help with:

Setting up:

On arrival the targets need to be set up, the giant netting needs to be put in place, bows need to be strung, arrows sorted, bracers arranged and signage put up.

Shooting:

Members of the public will be given a bracer and you can assist them on the line (you can watch a few of the more ‘seasoned’ club members first if it helps!). It will be the simple ‘point of aim’ technique (without sights & 3 fingers under the nocking point) and will only last for six arrows. Once your ‘have-a-goer’ has shot their six arrows you can congratulate them on their efforts and answer any questions they may have. At this point you may want to show them your own bow (if they seem keen!)

Packing up:

At the end of the session the money is counted up and a charity contribution is given to the event organisers. All the bows need to be taken down, the arrows put away, targets and netting packed up and signage taken down.

Your help with any of the three stages (or all of them) would be most welcomed as it does seem to be the same people doing them each year. Have-a-go’s do generate a lot of income for the club and is good for recruiting new members and helps to keep the club fees down! If possible please wear your SWAC shirts and represent our wonderful archery club!

If you are still unsure please speak to any of the committee or senior club members.
